CMS has announced that individuals who have, or have applied for, health insurance coverage through the health exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act and experience a “life-changing event” that may affect their coverage or eligibility for financial assistance will have to reapply for coverage.
These life-changing events are: adding a member through marriage or birth; relocating; losing access to other healthcare coverage, including employer coverage; being released from jail; or changing immigration or citizenship status.
Individuals who have to reapply will not have a gap in health insurance coverage.
